Red Star vs. Red Square, ft. the Kawasaki ZX10R Masters
Nelly Furtado—Promiscuous ft. Timbaland—Not the dubbed version you are thinking of:
The long and winding static black Red Star Raceway runs parallel with the N4 Witbank highway, before it turns to the South, into a vista of deception (keep your eyes glued to the track), away from trucks and cars, that run their own mediocre course of the daily-bump-and-grind—miserable they are! Wish you were here.
The ribbon of black stretches deep and wide on a four kilometre winding course. A racetrack of blood, sweat, and tears. I’ve seen many that have fallen; most returned victoriously. Her heart is cold, especially in winter; not warm enough on hot summer days. Her 13 turns and 5 straights can punish any man (or woman) severely. You have to have it in you to withstand her silent dark sarcasm. Down the long straights it is full throttle for most, as if she encourages them to defy her cold heart. Effortlessly they (the Masters) glide through her turns; from underneath her voice calls their names, a sound that heartens them to be even more defiant—we shall race.
My coffee is cold, the one thing I can’t stand. I type a few words more, before moving rapidly to the fridge. I need something to drink, and fast; I swing the door open: Red Square, Coke, Beer, Soda Water, Red Square, Milk, Red Square, Red Square, Wine, Red Square, Red Square ... I take one, sit down, and type further ...
The Red Army is geared for this weekend: Race Suits (one for practice; one for racing), Helmets, Gloves, Visors, one race-ready Kawasaki ZX10R Superbike, Boots, Knee Sliders (a pair for each heat), Racing Fuel (it sounds better than 95 Octane), Spares, Mechanic (for just in case), Camping Chairs (those liken to pool chairs, the ones that stretches out, you know what I’m talking about), perhaps Food and Drinks, a Brolly Girl (not compulsory), Money (Red Star has a super nice Cafeteria and liquor dispensary), Razors (Kyle Robinson #18, has asked for a heads up, if I should again take close-up photos); one Scoot Jockey, that’s you (there will be twenty-two on the starting grid). Anything else? I’m sure it will be packed.
Spectators are more than welcome to visits the pit area. SMOKING, however, are not permitted, except, when you surname rhymes with McLachlan. Bring the whole family to meet the tenacious Kawasaki ZX10R Masters; take pictures and publish it to Facebook, your following will love it dearly. Oh! And ask Mark (Weitz) if he can spare you an ice cold Red Square Reload. He’s always diligent is his vocation, always friendly, AND, takes great care of the arid needs of the Red Square Kawasaki ZX10R Masters, as they are officially known.
—If YOU would like to become a Red Square Master, and are older than 35, have a thick wallet, a few sponsors behind you (just small ones), can race a Kawasaki ZX10R Superbike, and/or looking for an alternative to Lipitor, high blood pressure medicine, or your worldly troubles, you may phone Johan Fourie (or Lynette), for membership. This is one of the most inexpensive Motorcycle Clubs to race for (in my opinion): Entry fees are paid for by the Club, so, already you save a lot. Fridays, after practices they test camaraderie with an excellent Club-Sponsored-Braai. They are the only outfit in the country that has a "Michelin Star" Chef on the books, and he is also racing, amazing, isn’t it?
THEN!—If there are any big or small businesses that would like to be associate with the Masters and their ways, you are most welcome to contact Johan Fourie—they will truly appreciate your financial support—your SPONSORSHIP. If in doubt, come to the next race meeting or on a Friday afternoon for their spectacular BRAAI. The rhythm of things at this Club is just amazing, Oh! And they are on DSTV (Supersport 8, Two Wheels).
Time surely flies. It is almost time for the SECOND ROUND of the ever popular Red Square Kawasaki ZX10R Masters, at Red Star Raceway. It is all happening on 27 + 28 March. Fridays are of course FREE practice days. Avid motorsport fans and Friday Slackers can have a foretaste of what will go down over the weekend. I’ve included a link to the racetrack—click here.
Provisional Starting Grid Line-up for Red Star Raceway: Graeme Van Breda, Pieter De Vos, Kyle Robinson, Tony Klem, Johan Le Roux, Jaco Gous, Peter Clark, Hennie du Plessis, Rodney McLachlan, Hano van der Merwe, Hannes De Vos, JB Schoeman, Ian Harwood, Raymond Keel, Abrie Marais, Michael Smit, Sid Farinha, Andre Denoon, Stewie Christie, Henk Schuiling, Banie Van Dyk, Stuart Russel ...
It is not just the Masters that will give rise to this beautiful day with their signature sound, but also the Thunderbikes, which includes the 1000- and 600cc Superbikes. Also on the race programme are the Silverton Bolt and Nut Brunch Run Challenge, including the Sub 10’s and other RSR Club races ...
This should be a very exiting weekend. Different racetracks produce different results. Do you agree with me? Zwartkops is wholly different than Red Star Raceway (from a motorcycle racing perspective); you can't even compare the two: distance, width, turns. Red Star has 13 in total, where Zwartkops have only 8; not to mention the straights.
So who will be the top podium contenders on race weekend? (I tilt my bottle of Red Square Reload, the last sip runs down slightly warmer than my previous, understandably, I was typing the whole time—and I need the energy boost.)
Red Star is a very demanding motorcycle racetrack, just like marriage: if you can’t ride her, rather don’t marry her. She was purposely laid down to form one of the best tracks in the country. Many overseas riders have had the opportunity to race there. The mass of local riders find Red Star also one of the best. It is definitely one of mine: here I can yield excellent motorcycle racing photographs, and have a wonderful day in the open ...
Back to the podium contenders (my prediction): Pieter "the Terrier" De Vos, Kyle Robinson, Graeme Van Breda ... I will even consider Tony Klem and Johan Le Roux for podium spots, they must just keep it together. The Terrier and Robinson will have each other at the throats that I can promise you. Pieter is not called "the Terrier" for no reason, but, Kyle also knows how to put a dog down.
To keep the Red Army gripped to the ribbon of black, especially at Red Star, is Bridgestone, more specifically: Bridgestone Battlax R10, motorcycle racing tyres. To keep them cool, energised and focussed, Mark nurses them with Red Square Reload (that you already knew), and ... the Brolly Girls, to spuriously make them feel young again.
If you have missed out on Round One (Zwartkops), it’s no biggy. Just take the N4 towards Witbank/eMalahleni (as previously mentioned), until you meet Red Star on you right hand side, or on your left (if you come from the other side). The racetrack has great spectator pavilions, fantastic ablution blocks, entertainment for the young, and a great cafeteria.
Red Star—you beautiful lady, with voluptuous curves and tight turns. You can send any Master into a stern need for more (heat- one, two), and that we are assured of. Your black lace shimmers in the noon sky; your ribbon of black is kind in a cruel manner. You are loved by most, adored by the masses of racing fans. You are forgiven (typical man). You have made the BATTLE: Red Star vs. Red Square.
Of course the Square dame will come out tops, but we are all equal, aren’t we? Without Red Star the hearts of the great will sag; without Red Square their spirits will never lift ...
Before I open another Red Square Reload, and type —Godspeed! I would like to thank all my avid motorsport Readers for their diligent support—THANK YOU, and see you there! —Godspeed! •
